Being, ongoing notes from the morning sessions. Because I'm just too tired to be
more comprehensive.


clay: two threads of web services
- edi plus plus. going to happen quickly
- rpc plus plus. a working corba. lack of semantic coordination is making this
difficult.


location based:

routing is a major part of location based services, but very difficult -- it's
basically the travelling salesman problem.
also panic buttons, what's nearest, tracking

- soap isn't nec a good protocol for these applications
- http://opengis.org/

working example of a web service on top of a location based service would be
MapPoint.NET

- the most expensive part of the LBS is the GPS itself

so this is completely about *untethered* LBS, which is a shame.

also: there aren't web services standards for directions, what's nearest, etc. [
is this such a bad thing?]

he's demonstrating a directions thing in an desktop application: that's the
power of webservices that is.

mapping in svg is a way forward apparently.
