I want to talk briefly about another instance of mapping, which is this dialog box.
The box says, reading from left to right, “Cancel” then “Okay”. Why does it read it that way round? When we say it out loud, we usually say “Okay” then “Cancel”.
The nice correspondence is that the position of the shortcut keys, escape and enter, match the position of the buttons on the box. Cancel is on the left, as is Escape. Okay and enter are both on the right.
Good. But is this really important?
Let’s have a quick look at an experiment that illustrates a simplified version of this.
